Garni-Geghard Tour
In the morning, we drive southeast to the pagan temple of Garni (1st century). After the visit, we take a short walk through the impressive Azat Gorge of Garni (UNESCO World Heritage Site). The hexagonal basalt formations are a true wonder of nature and are poetically described as a symphony of stones. Lunch by an Armenian family in a beautiful garden. Afterwards, we can watch how traditional Armenian bread, lavash (UNESCO World Heritage Site), is baked. The journey continues to the rock monastery of Geghard (UNESCO World Heritage Site) from the 4th century, at the site of a sacred spring inside a cave. The name meaning "the Monastery of the Spear", originates from the spear which had wounded Jesus at the Crucifixion, allegedly brought to Armenia by Apostle Jude Thaddeus, and stored amongst many other relics. Now it is displayed in the Echmiadzin treasury. Return to Yerevan.
