Azhdahak hiking

Day 1: Flight to Yerevan, Arrival 
Arrival at Zvartnots Airport. After customs and passport control, you will be welcomed by our German-speaking tour guide. He will accompany you on the transfer to your hotel in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.  

 

Day 2: City Tour  
After a short rest at the hotel, we will explore the capital on a walking tour, visiting the following sites: The Cascade, a massive stairway complex made of light travertine stone, stretching 572 steps up a hillside in the city center. Today, it houses the Museum of Contemporary Art. We will also see the impressive Opera House, Republic Square—the heart of Yerevan—and visit the Matenadaran, an institute for ancient manuscripts with one of the world's richest collections. Dinner will be enjoyed in a traditional restaurant with folklore entertainment. Overnight stay in Yerevan.  

 

Day 3: Hike from Garni to Havuts Tar
Drive towards Garni, followed by a hike in the Azat Gorge (recognized by UNESCO for its basalt columns) to the medieval monastery Havuts Tar (9.9 km, +380/-480 m elevation). Drive to Geghard Monastery, visit, and overnight stay in a guesthouse in Garni.  
 

Day 4: Vishap Lake 
Drive towards the village of Geghard, followed by a hike to Vishap Lake (2620 m, 11 km, +700 m elevation). At the lake, one can admire the so-called Dragon Stones, associated with ancient water cults. Arrival, rest, and overnight stay in tents.  

 

Day 5: Azhdahak (3590 m) 
Hike to the volcanic peak of Azhdahak, the highest point of the Geghama Mountains (16 km, +970 m elevation). Along the way, numerous prehistoric petroglyphs can be found. A breathtaking panorama unfolds from the summit. Overnight camping at the foot of Azhdahak.  

 

Day 6: To Akna Lake (3030 m)
Hike to Akna Lake (9.5 km, -200 m elevation). Overnight camping at the lake.

 

Day 7: Lake Sevan (1900 m)
Hike to Lake Sevan via the village of Tsaghkashen (13 km, -900 m elevation). Visit the Noratus cemetery, which features over 800 medieval khachkars (cross-stones). Overnight stay in a hotel by Lake Sevan. Time for relaxation.

 

Day 8: Return to Yerevan, free time  
Visit the medieval Sevan Monastery on the peninsula. Free time in the capital with the opportunity to explore interesting and authentic markets and go shopping.  

 

Day 9: Departure
Transfer to the airport, departure.
